The historic pumping station at the Nieuwlandse Molen in Hoek van Holland has recently been expanded and modernized. The mill, which has been keeping the Het Nieuwland and Het Noordland polders dry since the 16th century, has long combined traditional wind power with modern technology. Thanks to a recent renovation, the pumping station is now more powerful, more sustainable, and better prepared for extreme precipitation.
While the renovated pumping station already has an impressive capacity of 87 m³ per minute, an extra step has now been taken to further increase water safety in the area. Bosman Watermanagement has realized the complete design and installation of a new additional pump.
A Vision 35MV pump with a capacity of 15 m³ per minute was chosen for this purpose. This pump can be switched on at times of increased water supply, allowing the entire system to discharge more water when it is really needed. This provides extra security for the surrounding area during peak loads caused by heavy rainfall.
The expansion of the installation comes on top of previous renovation work, which included the renewal of the screw, control box, and electrical installation of the pumping station. The work was carried out with great respect for the monument: a challenge, given the limited space in and around the mill.
With the addition of the Vision 35MV pump, the Nieuwlandse Molen is better equipped than ever to keep the area safe. Modern water technology and centuries-old mill history come together beautifully here: a unique place where heritage and innovation reinforce each other.
