Bosman Watermanagement has installed a double-acting B4 wind-water mill in Schipluiden: an innovative solution that can both pump water up and pump it away. To make this possible, the foundation of the mill has been modified. By using multiple shut-off valves, the pump can operate in two directions. This makes the installation flexible in use: an area can be drained, after which the same area can be refilled with a simple switch of the shut-off valves.
This double-acting windmill offers major advantages for nature and water management. The mill proves its value especially in (nature) areas where wet conditions are desirable. By raising the water level in a controlled manner, birds are attracted to use the area as a breeding ground. After the breeding season, the wind-powered watermill can easily drain the area, allowing management and mowing activities to be carried out efficiently.
