Using a windwatermill is not only cost‑effective, it is also a clean and sustainable way to move water. Especially in areas without electricity, a windwatermill can make a real difference. In the Netherlands, windwatermills were traditionally used to drain farmland, and today they are also widely used in nature reserves to manage water levels in wetland areas.
The mill starts operating at low wind speeds, from just 3 m/s (around Beaufort 1). Thanks to a simple float system, it can automatically regulate the water level. Under normal conditions, especially in flat and open landscapes, one mill can manage an area of roughly 20 to 25 hectares.
It is a quiet, natural and reliable way to keep water moving where it matters most.
